About the performer

Tanika Paschke-Moloi is a singer-songwriter and storyteller whose roots in journalism shape her approach to music. Drawing on folk and soul, her songs explore love, loss, resilience and belonging. Through original music and spoken storytelling, she invites audiences into an unfolding narrative that moves between intimate reflection and the shared energy of dance.

About the performance

Persephone’s Myth reimagines the Greek myth in a post-apartheid South African mining town. A young girl grows up watching her father descend into the earth each day to mine gold. When he falls ill and dies, she buries both her father and her grief. Years later, now a journalist, an assignment brings her home to investigate a mysterious illness spreading through the community.

Her investigation draws her into the mine’s underworld—and her own unconscious—as she begins to uncover the history of her father, her town and herself.

Join Tanika at Athletic Social Club on 17 November 2026 for an evening of original songs and soliloquies, building from slow, intimate folk and soul into dance. This is a story of love, loss and the search for freedom, told through a contemporary meeting of mythology and lived experience.
