See What’s Happening
There’s always something happening at Creative Writing in Cape Town.
Our 8-Week Creative Writing Discovery Courses run throughout the year, both in-person and online, offering a deeper dive into the craft and practice of creative writing.
Our Tuesday Sessions are an ongoing online Community of Practice where writers come together each week to explore a literary topic, technique or challenge.
We also host monthly genre-specific creative writing workshops, focused on developing particular skills and approaches to writing.
And as the seasons change, we gather in person for Storytelling Socials — informal spaces to connect, share stories and meet other creatives.
Alongside our own programming, we share selected storytelling, performing arts and industry events that we think our community will enjoy.
We’d love to meet you IRL. Come join us.

Memoir Writing: Turning Memory into Meaning
Have you ever thought, “There’s a story in this,” but not known where or how to begin putting it together?
This 3-hour creative writing workshop explores how we can transform lived experience and vivid memories into meaningful stories. Through guided writing exercises, creative somatic practices, discussion and reflection, we’ll explore how to move from memory to scene, shape personal experience into narrative, and discover the deeper meaning within the stories we carry.
Come with a notebook, a pen and some memories you’d like to explore. No previous memoir-writing experience is needed.
Tanika Paschke-Moloi & The Butterfly Effect
Tanika Paschke-Moloi is an emerging singer-songwriter whose journey into music began not on the stage, but in the world of journalism. Long before she performed her own songs, she was listening deeply to the stories of others—a thread that continues to shape her work today.
Her music unfolds as an interconnected narrative, inviting audiences on a journey through the experiences that make us human. Raw, soulful, beautiful, and deeply honest, each song becomes another chapter in a larger story of love, loss, hope, resilience, and belonging.
Some moments will move you to tears. Others will make you laugh. We begin by listening together, and before long, we're on our feet dancing.
You'll leave feeling a little more human, a little more connected, and perhaps even a little more whole.
The Butterfly Effect: Music and Poetry with Tanika Paschke-Moloi
The Butterfly Effect is a 60-minute music and storytelling performance featuring Tanika Paschke-Moloi.
Blending songs from her upcoming EP with stories from her debut novel, Speak the Truth and Run, the show tells the story of a white orphan adopted by a Black family in Soweto shortly after South Africa's first democratic elections.
Through music and narrative, the performance explores why we continue to feel, think, behave, and relate to one another along racial, class, and cultural divides long after the political dismantling of Apartheid.
The music invites audiences into their own reflection—gently rather than harshly, safely rather than defensively. The sound is luxurious and soulful like Norah Jones, dynamic and fearless like Nina Simone, and intimate and deeply human like Tracy Chapman.
The story resolves with both intellect and emotion satisfied, leaving audiences feeling held, connected, and inspired. The Butterfly Effect offers a glimpse of what it could feel like to be whole—and to be together.
